Working with Landowners

One of our goals is to support and work effectively and collaboratively with landowners to achieve our vision of a pest free Banks Peninsula.

Much of the land we work on is privately owned and we need to work with every single landowner – this is a social project as much as a technical challenge.  Ensuring that we work with landowners, iwi and communities is a core part of our work.

Pest Free Banks Peninsula has a dedicated Landowner Liaison Officer who works with landowners and residents on the Peninsula. We engage with landowners prior to any predator control programmes on their land or in their area. We explain our methods and targeted species, and we ensure everyone has a property access agreement and an SSSP (Site Specific Safety Plan) in place before any work commences. We provide maps of where our trapping tools and resources are placed, and we remain available throughout the control programme to ensure landowners have all the information they need.

Farm Biodiversity Programme

Banks Peninsula’s wide range of microclimates and growing environments makes it a haven for a remarkable diversity of native species. Landowners in the region understand this environment better than anyone.

PFBP’s partner organisation, Banks Peninsula Conservation Trust, offers a farm biodiversity programme, which supports landowners to protect and improve their on-farm indigenous biodiversity, which in turn can and improve farm productivity and profitability.

If you would like to find out more about our farm biodiversity programme, please get in touch: farmbiodiversity@bpct.org.nz

For landowners on Banks Peninsula, we would love to hear from you!
