Our Tools…Conservation Dogs
Scmack, Our Possum Detection Dog
As a Predator Free 2050 project which aims to completely remove
possums from our treatment area, detection dogs perform the
vital task of locating possums that have not interacted with other
conventional control devices (such as traps or toxins).
Our Tools…Toxins
Brodifacoum (PestOff!)
PestOff! is the trade name for the green-dyed cereal pellets containing brodifacoum and is used for possum and rodents. Brodifacoum is a second-generation anticoagulant toxin.
Keeping Animals Safe
PestOff! bait is frequently used by rural landowners and wildlife managers for controlling pests because the toxin is highly effective and has very low risks to cats, dogs, livestock and humans.
Risks to Cats & Dogs
This simple one-page document outlines how much PestOff! possum bait a cat or dog needs to eat for it to be affected & how you can minimise the risks while Pest Free BP are working in your area.
Cyanide Paste
Sodium or potassium cyanide paste is a toxin widely used for possum control. It is bright green in colour, with pea sized squirts from the bait tube applied to possum habitat.
Feratox (Cyanide)
Feratox is the trade name for encapsulated pellets containing potassium cyanide. It is encapsulated by a bait lure, which is dyed green and used in bait stations or bags.
Warning Signs
No toxin operation will occur without landowner/land occupier permission. As a member of the public, please ensure that you take heed of any signage you encounter.
Our Tools…Trail Cameras
PFBP use trail cameras to monitor pest animals in the wild.
We use both infra-red (IR) and thermal cameras and for different
reasons: to establish pest numbers before we start control operations
and for monitoring reinvasion into the areas that we have treated, placing
cameras at likely points of reinvasion.
